The New Moon in 28° Capricorn at the end of the week with a whole slew of aspects between personal planets and the outer planets posing this New Moon as a massive shift and new awakening for the collective. The Moon begins her new cycle in Capricorn on Sunday the 18^th at 11:51 am but before that we have many other astrological transits that rumble the ground we stand on. I’ll be honest it has been extremely difficult focusing this week to write out the transits because I have been glued to the news and social media following the murder of Renee Good at point range by an ICE agent. Not only was it alarming to witness but what was most shocking was the response from the Trump administration and especially JD Vance at a press conference giving total immunity to these federal agents along with Kristie Noem spewing complete lies regarding how the event unfolded. It has only been 2 weeks into the new year and the regime has taken over Venezuela, has now directed ICE agents to go door to door to check documentation, mass protests in Iran that have left hundreds of people dead with a total internet blackout, and to top it off strong suggestive rhetoric for the United States to take over Greenland. This all very much coincides with the astrology of the week with the Venus, Mars, Sun conjunction in Capricorn opposing Jupiter – authoritarian overreach. It’s difficult to write out day by day astro breakdowns for individual / personal interpretations when the collective political energies are so strong and also so important to acknowledge.

On the 14^th Mercury moves into opposition with Jupiter and when I looked back to the last time there was a big cluster of oppositions to Jupiter it brought me to October of 2023 – when Israel was attacked and then subsequently retaliated with brute force funded by the United States government which lead to an estimated 70,000 Palestinian deaths. Now there is a huge protest in Iran and threats between Israel and Iran going back and forth with Trump’s cronies trying to divert his attention away from Greenland by dangling Iran in front of his face as an outlet for his tyrannical temper, offering him to “bomb Iran instead”. We’re moving into Aquarius season next week and all of the personal planets are following the Sun into the collective radical awakener, appropriate that there is now a general strike scheduled for January 20^th, the day the Sun moves into Aquarius. These last degrees of Capricorn are showing us just how imbalanced humanity is when so much emphasis is weighted towards capital gains and profits. Capricorn is the capitalist of the zodiac (not all Capricorns), but in general the sign is associated with upward mobility towards human development and progress, the shadow side of this energy when too much emphasis is placed on arbitrary goals is the pedestal that the means is placed on in order to get to the end.

I have been feeling a lot of reoccurring anxieties from 2020 emerging. It was a time when all of us astrologers were putting a lot of emphasis on the United States Pluto return which happened to be at 27° Capricorn, (the New Moon is at 28° Capricorn). So much was coming up in the collective, we had mass protests in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, covid, T was also in office and the federal reserve was printing billions of dollars which has led to sky rocketing prices of goods and services that is hurting Americans today. I had to do a lot of self-soothing this week as I could feel myself slipping back into worst case scenario future forecasting. I’m sure many of you are doing the same. But we’ve been here before, the spiral loop has come back around and it will continue to come back around to this place but each time it does we will have developed better coping mechanisms, wits, and a stronger sense of communal care. This New Moon at the end of the week with Venus ingressing into Aquarius right after is an opportunity to put to use the skills, techniques, and systems for staying grounded during chaotic times.

We are smarter, stronger, and more refined, having learned from past mistakes and with that comes real wisdom – the higher octave of Capricorn. And aside from the political climate, this week offers us a time to reflect on all that we have accomplished and acknowledge our roots that have grown deeper in connection with generations that have come before. This is a week to commune with your ancestors, make contact with your support system and focus your energy on those first small steps that you can reasonably accomplish.

The Sun and Chiron square up today forcing us to raise our own standards for ourselves. The combo also sheds light on how much strength we’ve developed over the year and where we can aim to build more resilience. Moon is in flow with Mercury, Jupiter and Mars pushing for depth, honesty, and accountability from the masculine aspects of life / nature. Passion is unmistakable when it comes from core truth.

Mars squares Chiron while the Moon triggers the Capricorn stellium and the outer planets causing intense emotions to swell up that may feel unexpected. Ride the wave and let it flow through by taking action whether it be political, social, or cultural because the Moon in Scorpio is seeking empowerment and a place to set down repressed emotions that have been swirling for some time. Release those demons!

Mercury opposes Jupiter putting pressure to be outspoken and express morals / values as well as sharing information and education on important political and work related matters. Trying to make sense of the chaos seems to be the main focus of the day. There’s necessary discomfort that arises with the Moon square the Nodes today, our internal sense of security clashes with future oriented planning.

The energy is picking up again and a lot is being released before Venus moves into Aquarius in the next couple of days. A sense of restriction and desire for freedom colors the air with the Moon in Sagittarius making a tense aspect to controlling and authoritative Saturn. We may feel stifled in finding the truth, triggering an even stronger desire to search for outlets and information in alternative places. Solutions come through experimentation and creativity rather than trying the same door that always seems stuck.

A stellium in Capricorn positions us to prepare for the New Moon coming in on Sunday, opening the space for deep reflection on the past and the historical markers that have defined us. Timelines are quantified and we trace back the roots of the past that have nourished who we are today. Moon square Neptune creates a bit of a mental fog leaving us feeling directionless in the earlier part of the day but it prompts the curious mind to explore visions and dreams within the subconscious.

Venus enters Aquarius putting a lot of our relational focus on friendships and community driven connections from now until she swings out of the humanitarian sign. There is a collective pull to unite with others for the purpose of bridging the gap of separation. We find comfort in camaraderie and a shared vision with those who reflect the same unique views as we do.
